Free Zones are the zones which are physically separated from the other parts of the country, and where legal and administrative regulations on commercial, financial and economic issues within the country are not applied and wider incentives for industrial and commercial activities are established by Free Zone Law No. 3218.

In Article 1 of the Free Zone Law Number 3218, the purpose of establishment and operation of the free zones are stated as follows;

• Promoting export oriented investment and production.
• Accelerating foreign direct investment and technology entry.
• Directing enterprises towards export.
• Developing international trade.
